weather , the standard & array of cars on display were exceptional , car of
the day was a beautifully restored Sunbeam Alpine belonging to Lyn & John
Nightingale who were presented with a certificate & bottle of wine. We hope

Motor Sports Association
Urgent
action required – Government’s Forestry Review Panel
The government’s proposed changes to the ownership and management of public
forests in England pose a very real danger to UK motor sport – and in
particular Stage Rallying.
The Independent Panel established earlier this year to look at the forestry
issue and make recommendations to government contains only one representative
of leisure users – and that is the Ramblers’ Association. Consequently, there
is a great danger that the interests of motor sport will not be considered in
the panel’s final report; the disastrous impact of this would be to risk motor
sport being excluded from both the public forest estate and any of the forests
transferred into private ownership.
The panel is currently consulting with the general public to find out ‘What the
forests mean to you?’ It is essential that as many people as possible from the
motor sport community make their views known to the panel.
THE DEADLINE FOR
SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES IS SUNDAY 31 JULY 2011.
The panel is asking the following questions:
Q1 – What do forests and woods mean to you?
Q2 – What is your vision for the future of England’s forests and woods?
Q3 – What do you feel to be the benefits of forests and woods to:
a) you personally;
b) society as a whole;
c) the natural environment; and
d) the economy?
Q4 – We would like to hear about your suggestions of practical solutions and
good practice which can be replicated more widely.
Q5 – What do you see as the priorities and challenges for policy about
England’s forests and woods?
In order to submit feedback to this consultation, simply send an email to: forestrypanel@defra.gsi.gov.uk,
detailing your name and answering as many of the questions as you wish.
PLEASE RESPOND BEFORE
THE END OF THIS WEEKEND.
It is essential that as many people as possible emphasise the importance to
motor sport of continued access to the public forest estate. If we fail to do
this, there is every chance that the requirements of motor sport will simply
not be considered by the panel.
A sample response paper can be found on the MSA website with some key issues highlighted that you might
like to consider when completing your submission. You do not need to answer all
the questions, but please respond in your own words, as this is significantly
more impactful than an obviously orchestrated campaign.
Further information about the panel and the consultation process can be found
on the defra website.
Many thanks for your assistance in this very important matter.
Kind regards
Colin Hilton
Chief Executive
Motor Sports Association

News from the ASWMC
"From your Chairman - please ensure
this is circulated to all members as soon as possible
Both in the latest
Newsletter and during Sundays Council meeting I referred to the likelihood that
the MSA would prepare a manifesto for presentation to government seeking
authority for the use of what the MSA is referring to as Temporary Suspension
Orders, enabling public roads to be closed by local authorities and suspension of the
Road Traffic Act during closure, so that Rallies or Hilllcimbs may be held.
Before, this has required an Act of Parliament for each.
What we are now
seeking would place mainland UK on a level footing with the Isle of Man,
Channel Islands, Ireland (both north & south) and Continental Europe,
where that authority is already in place.
That manifesto is now to be
found at www.msauk.org/manifesto however more importantly
the MSA has prepared a petition which requires as many participants in UK
motorsport (in whatever capacity) to sign please do so this is vital this
can be found at www.petition.co.uk/msa
Kindest regards
Paul Parker

Dews
Treasure Hunt Sunday 11th October 2009
The
event started from the New Queen at Avon, where we received a very warm
welcome. They had laid on tea/coffee and hot bacon baguettes for breakfast to
sustain us before we set off on our journey around the New Forest, Nigel
& Tina had set the route weeks earlier, but decided to follow the route to
check all was well and to make sure that all clues were still in place !
Only to see a couple of the cars going in the opposite direction. They shall
remain nameless, but not long after the last car had set off one car was
seen to be going back towards the pub to start again !! ……. Or was it for
more breakfast?
The
weather was good and the clues were fun. After negotiating pigs , sheep, cows
& numerous cyclist all over the forest, we eventually all ended up at the required
destination at Downton, to a well deserved buffet lunch. Everyone full of
stories of how wonderfully they thought they had all done!! Only for Nigel to
tell us we were not quite as clever as we had thought, well except two of the
cars who had very good scores ……… some teams vowed never to go with
each other again, one of which was Nicky Harris complaining her dad Steven
drove to fast for her to look for clues ….
It was suggested next time to draw names from a hat to see who would
partner who, but Nicky was still worried she would end up with her dad !
Another suggestion was all female versus all male teams! But sabotage would
probably enter into that ….
Thanks
must be given to Nigel Samson for putting the effort into doing a very pleasant
route for us all to enjoy. Well done & thanks to all who took part making a
very enjoyable day.

The
winners were John & Pearl Bryant who were presented by
chairman Peter Styles with an inscribed tankard & a bottle of wine.

The”
last but not lost” Dews mug was generously given by the Frampton
family and presented by Nicky Harris and awarded to the Styles team for
their well earned last position.

Some
of the participants enjoying a well earned rest at Downton club in the photo.
